Meet the Trustees

Mark O'Brien
Board Chair

I am deeply appreciative of the unique warmth and whānau-centred spirit that Te Rauhii brings to our community.

With governance experience and a collaborative, future focused leadership approach, I am committed to ensuring Te Rauhii remains sustainable, inclusive, and accessible so every child has the opportunity to thrive creatively, socially, and academically.

I see arts education as a catalyst for change, enhancing brain development, building discipline and resilience, and providing a powerful outlet for emotional expression. Te Rauhii is more than a programme to me; it is a place of connection and opportunity where tamariki from diverse backgrounds come together, grow in confidence, and find their voice.

Melanie Blackmore
Trustee

Mel Blackmore is the Business Manager at Trust Waikato, a funder of Te Rauhii, and has been a trustee since 2023. Waikato born and bred, Mel grew up playing the clarinet and saxophone and has a long‑held appreciation for the role music plays in the lives of young people and in strengthening communities. She values the opportunities music creates for participation, connection, and learning.

"I feel privileged to serve on the Te Rauhii board and to support the direction of a programme that makes a real difference for communities."

Kirstin Te Amo
Trustee

Kirstin is of Ngāti Kahungunu descent and is currently a principal advisor, systems and compliance in Te Kurutao Group Māori at Kāinga Ora. Her qualifications include a Master of Management and Master of Māori and Pacific Development.

Kirstin played the violin and piano for many years growing up and has been involved in various string groups and orchestras. She is passionate about helping tamariki succeed and have fun through music.

Konah Park
Trustee

I am deeply committed to the wellbeing of our communities, particularly those facing systemic challenges. Living in Nawton has given me a grounded understanding of the barriers many whānau face, fueling my passion for equity and social justice.

As a former primary school teacher and current Senior Community Advisor at Hamilton City Council, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of education and grassroots advocacy. I joined the Board of Te Rauhii to give back to the community that raised me and to support a kaupapa that empowers our tamariki and whānau through music.
